Canon Collins Trust fund opens Canon Collins Scholarships and invites applications from students of Southern African countries for admission into the master’s scholarship programmes for the 2019/2020 session.

This scholarship programme which is offered once a year is ongoing and will be closed by 19th August 2019

Eligible Countries: Countries in the southern part of the African continent which include; Angola, Botswana, Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa, Swaziland, Zambia, Zimbabwe.

About the scholarship Award: Canon Collins Trust fund was designed to support exceptional candidates who are committed to social justice reform in Southern Africa and for whom a postgraduate qualification is an essential element in working to create an open and just system in the society.

The Trust revised its South African scholarship awards policy in the year 2015 and came up that the next 3 years the scholarship award will be available only to those studying in three areas:

Justice; which includes Law, Economics, Politics and Environmental studies
Education: policy and practice
Humanities; which includes Literature, History, Anthropology and the Arts
Candidates who apply for courses that are not within these areas will not be put into consideration.

Type of scholarship program: Masters, PhD

Selection Conditions: Applicants will be assessed based on the information that they supply on their application form in addition to the criteria listed below:

Practical leadership qualities
Strong commitment
Relevance and quality of work experience, including work reference.
Potential to contribute to Southern Africa’s prosperity
Academic records and academic references
The relevance of the proposed study
Intended career path
Likely future impact

Completion of the form:
The application form should be filled using a high standard of English with no spelling and language errors where all of the questions should be answered fully and with attention to details.

All the necessary documentation and supporting documents should be provided during the application.

Eligibility: In order to be considered for a scholarship under this programme you must:

be a native of, or have refugee status in, one of the following countries: Angola, Botswana, Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa, Swaziland, Zambia, Zimbabwe.

be a normal resident in one of the aforementioned countries.

have a good first degree (minimum of a second class, upper division or equivalent) or about to graduate in the year of application.

be a student or applying to study at a Southern African university
Number of Scholarship: About 20-30 awards.

What are the benefits?

In 2020, the value of the scholarship package will range from R20,000 to R100,000 depending on student circumstances. Full and part-time study are both supported and will consider applications from those who wish to study by distance learning.

The annual conference for current scholars and several smaller events are held throughout the year. Awardees of this Scholarship are expected to participate in these activities, becoming part of and contributing to our network.
